The provider of the mystery ingredient is encouraged to be creative, but should try and be frugal by using an inexpensive ingredient or something already in their home. While planning, the new chef should keep in mind that they will have a budget of only $2 per participant and will be accompanied as they shop or required to produce receipts. Only spices may be brought from home.
Step 4: Once ingredients have been acquired and presented to the judges the contestant will be presented with the Mystery Ingredient and a one hour countdown timer started.
Step 5: Judges will rate the dish on the categories of Originality, Presentation and Taste on a scale of one to ten. Once tallied, the scores will be averaged and an overall score will be presented to the contestant.
Step 6: The previous chef will roll a die to determine who will be the next Dubious Chef contestant.
